On Thursday, October 20, 2016, 7:00 p.m., Restaurant Nicholas, 160 Route 35 South, Red Bank, New Jersey, will host a walk-around wine tasting featuring 18 world class wines from France, Italy, Germany, California, Oregon, and Argentina. Nicholas has selected these wines specifically for drinking on crisp, fall nights. They pair beautifully with fall flavors such as roasted meats, hearty soups, and harvest vegetables.
To complement the selection of wines, hors d’oeuvres and artisanal cheeses will be served.
The wines to be tasted are noted below…
Benoni Chardonnay Willamette Valley Petit Grains 2015: Benoni Petit Grains 2015 Chard is the product of one of the best vintages in Oregon in the last decade. Concentrated with crisp, clean flavors of apple and pear, this wine is wonderful as an aperitif or the perfect complement to seafood dishes.
Domaine Corsin Pouilly Fuissé VV 2013: Domaine Corsin’s ’13 Pouilly Fuissé is extremely rich and well structured, displaying great mineral qualities in mid-palate. Delicious now, but will continue to improve for 7-10 years.
Elio Grasso Dolcetto d’Albar dei Grassi 2015: The 2015 Dolcetto d’Alba dei Grassi received 90 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Fabre Montmayou Cabernet Franc Mendoza Reserva 2014: The 2014 Cabernet Franc is a beautiful deep purple with fragrant aromatics of cassis and cedar. Ripe and long, it drinks like wine that is twice its price.
Château Haut Rocher Saint Emilion 2014: The 2014 is aromatically complex, with layers of dark fruit and just a touch of new oak. In the mouth, the fruit is dense and long, with a mineral finish.
Domaine Saint Amant Beaumes de Venise Rouge Grangeneuve 2014: Proprietress Camille Wallut’s wines are always aromatic firework shows; and the 2014 CDR Grangeneuve is a showstopper.
Xavier Vignon Gigondas 2012: Made from 85% Grenache, 10$Mourvedre, and 5% Syrah, the 2012 Gigondas offers up a classic style in its dried spices, cedar, exotic wood, and sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit. 90 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Chad Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2013: This is a juicy, powerful Cabernet, displaying the concentration and length generally found in bottles twice its price.
Weingut Ratzenberger Riesling Kabinett Feinherb Bacharacher 2015: This is a fruity Rhein Riesling of sumptuous fruit flavors, stern acidity, and classic mineral and savory flavors. Pair with lobster, crab, monkfish, salmon, roasted turkey, and sausages. Drink now – 2025.
Diego Bolognani Pinot Grigio 2015: The 2015 Pinot Grigio has a beautiful balance of nutty, mineral, and spicy notes, with purity of fruit and a long, refined finish. Pair with simple pasta dishes and fish preparations.
Château Le Grand Verdus Bordeaux Blanc 2015: This is a classic white Bordeaux, aromatically complex with a steely structure that is built for all types of cuisine.
Longoria Chardonnay Cuvée Diana Santa Rita Hills 2013: Delicate and understated in personality, the 2013 offers a lovely balance of white peach, flowers, and a touch of new oak melded into a nuanced finish. 91 Points from Antonio Galloni
Juliana Layla Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2015: The 2015 is explosively aromatic, with a high-toned, wild cherry nose kissed by a touch of spice. The fruit is absolutelyu pure Pinot, bright and vibrant.
Sperino Coste della Sesia Uvaggio 2013: The Uvaggio is a beautiful, highly polished, floral, fruit-forward rendition of Nebbiolo that pairs well with herb-scented roasts and hard cheeses.
Unti Vineyards Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2013: This wine has exotic floral and pepper aromas followed by bright, fruity and spicy flavors – a classic Dry Creek Zin.
Corzano e Paterno Chianti Riserva Tre Borri 2013: The nose is elegant with notes of red fruits, touch of earth, sweet tobacco, and spice. The mid palate is concentrated and vibrant with a lush, supple mouthfeel. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins. Drink this Tuscan masterpiece now – 2025.
Nichols Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013: The fruit is intense, berried-up and juicy, with a touch of dark chocolate and coffee… but what makes this wine special is its elegance.
