MushroomsKennett Square, Pennsylvania, known as the “Mushroom Capital of the World,” grows 65 percent of the mushrooms consumed in the United States.

The community has long honored its favorite crop with a weekend-long festival. Now in its 30th year, the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival will be held this coming weekend, September 11 – 13, 2015, with over 100,000 visitors expected to pay homage to their favorite fungi.

Noted below is a list of some of the highlights…

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11: Old-Fashioned Carnival, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm… Community Parade, 6:00 pm… Dancing in the Streets with Good Foot, after parade – 9:30 pm

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12: Street Festival, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm… Amateur Mushroom Appetizer Cook-Off, 10:30 am… Antique and Classic Car Show, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm… Culinary Demo: Fabio Viviano from Bravo’s Top Chef, 12:30 pm… Fried Mushroom Eating World Record Contest, 3:00 pm… Old–Fashioned Carnival, 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm… American Flair, Kennett Symphony’s Pops Concert, 7:30 pm

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13: Mushroom 5K Run/Walk, 8:30 am… Street Festival, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm… Soup and Wine Fest, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm… Culinary Demo: Brian Duffy from Spike TV’s Bar Rescue, 12:00 pm… Old-Fashioned Carnival, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Admission to the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is $3.00 per person (ages 12 and up), with proceeds from the admission wristbands benefiting the Mushroom Festival’s grant program. Wristbands may be purchased in advance at the Mushroom Cap, 114 West State Street, Kennett Square, or at the festival, either in the parking lots or at entrances. Shuttle buses are available from the parking lots.
