For the second year in a row, Restaurant Latour in the Crystal Springs Resort, One Wild Turkey Way, Hamburg, New Jersey, has been recognized by Wine Enthusiast as one of “America’s 100 Best Wine Restaurants” for its extensive wine cellar and unique fine wine collection.
Restaurant Latour is one of only two New Jersey restaurants on this year’s list, sharing the honor with Jockey Hollow in Morristown, and joining the ranks of such esteemed establishments as Per Se, Daniel, Eleven Madison Park, Blue Hill at Stone Barnes, and Le Bernardin, among others.
The celebratory reception took place on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in New York City. Restaurant Latour Manager Stephen Thomas accepted the restaurant’s award on behalf of Crystal Springs Resort and its restaurant and wine team, which also includes Executive Chef Anthony Bucco, Sommelier Susanne Lerescu, and Wine Director and VP of Hospitality Robby Younes.
Created by resort founder Gene Mulvihill, the Wine Cellar is one of the largest and deepest cellars in the country. The unique – 135,000 bottles; 9,100 labels – collection includes verticals of all the great châteaux of Bordeaux and Burgundy, including many prized vintages and rare bottles dating back to 1795. Originally Mr. Mulvihill’s private collection, the cellar has been housed at the resort since 2005 and has recently been expanded with a ninth room dedicated to the late founder. Wine Director Robby Younes, who worked with Mr. Mulvihill on expanding the fine wine collection since 2008, has continued to build the cellar after Mulvihill’s passing in 2012.
Daily free cellar tours are conducted at 3:00 p.m.; and a Sunday dinner reservation also includes a free cellar tour with glass of wine and passed hors d’oeuvres at 5:00 p.m. Monthly wine seminars are held the first Sunday of each month, featuring wine regions and grape varietals.
