Tour de Farm 2015The Tour de Farm is a cycling and culinary experience like no other. On Sunday, August 2, 2015, approximately 500 cyclists will pedal through beautiful Hunterdon County to see firsthand where some of the region’s freshest produce and proteins are raised.

The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a locally sourced breakfast catered by Chef Max Hansen of Max Hansen Caterer at South Hunterdon Regional High School in Lambertville, New Jersey. After fueling up, participants will bicycle through the bucolic countryside while visiting local farms for tastings and tours. Cyclists will be able to purchase goods from the farms, which will be transported back for them at the end of the journey.

The Tour de Farm offers three options for all levels of cyclists: an 81-mile “Extreme Tour,” which includes 4,000 feet of elevation scaling; a “Not-So-Extreme Tour,” which covers 35 miles and 1,700 feet of elevation; and a “Weekend Warrior Tour,” which encompasses 20 miles and 1,200 feet of elevation.

“People today want to know who their farmers are, how their farm products are grown, what the farmers feed their animals and how they treat their livestock,” notes Tour de Farm’s organizer Mitch Morrison. “The annual bike tour, which also hosts tours in Sussex and Warren Counties, invites active locavores to get more in touch with agriculture.”

The day will conclude with a Farm-to-Fork celebration at Tullamore Farms in Stockton, NJ, a working grass-fed cattle and lamb farm. Delicious locally-sourced appetizers will be provided by Chefs Ian Knauer and Shelley Wiseman of the Farm Cooking School, which is located on the premises. Cheese and artisan breads will be provided by Milford, NJ’s Bobolink Farm.
