Wine Tasting Image 2On Thursday, January 29, 2015, 7:00 p.m., Nicholas Wines Owner Nicholas Harary of Restaurant Nicholas in Red Bank, New Jersey, will pour and guide guests through a walk-around tasting of 15 wines from around the world. Hors d’oeuvres and artisanal cheeses will complement these outstanding vintages.

The following wines will be tasted…

Château Le Grand Verdus Bordeaux Blanc 2013: This estate’s vines are old, their farming is completely natural, and their winemaking is straight-forward. This is a classic white Bordeaux, aromatically complex, with a steely structure that is built for all types of cuisine.

Domaine Minchin Menetou-Salon 2013: Members of the Minchin family have grown Sauvignon Blanc vines in Menetou for 65 years. The mineral soil of their south-facing vineyards adds great vibrancy to their wines, which are rich in aromas and flavors of white flowers, citrus, and apricots.

Domaine Corsin Pouilly Fuissé 2012: The wines of Domaine Corsin are benchmarks for the Maconnais region. The 2012 Pouilly Fuissé is extremely rich and well structured, displaying great mineral qualities in the mid-palate. This wine is delicious now, but will continue to improve in the bottle for 7-10 years. A classic white Burgundy.

Domaine Barmes-Buecher Sept Grains 2013: A blend of seven different grapes and six different vineyards, Sept Grains is a true taste of the Barmes estate. Wonderfully aromatic and intensely flavored, this is a dry wine with the spice of Gewürz, the mineral refinement of Riesling, the lushness of Pinot Gris, and the crispness of Pinot Blanc.

Domaine Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses 2012: The 2012 Pernand Vergelesses is a product of old vines and a low yield with no new oak in the aging process. The wine is berry-rich on the nose, mineral-laced fruit in mid-palate, with the structure and length that are the hallmarks of Pernand Vergelesses.Drink now – 2020.

Trousse-Chemise Pinot Noir 2013: Anne Sery Martindale sources high-elevation Pinot Noir grapes from several single vineyards located in the wind tunnel known as the Van Duzel Corridor, the only gap in Oregon’s Coastal Range. This access to the Pacific creates a growing environment perfect for elegant, fine Pinot Noir. The 2013 is bright and fruity with a long mineral finish. A classic Oregon Pinot that is the perfect match for roasted poultry or salmon.

Domaine Laurent Combier Crozes-Hermitage Cuveé L 2013: Naturally-tended, low-yielding, and hand-harvested Syrah yields a classy and fragrant wine. The silky texture and firm structure create a vintage that is delicious now, yet will improve in the bottle for up to 7 years from the release date.

Xavier Vignon Châteauneuf du Pape Cuveé Anonyme 2007: Oenologist and consultant Xavier Vignon’s wild-berry, inky Châteauneuf du Pape is sourced from ancient vines of Grenache and Syrah with a healthy infusion of Mourvedre. It is this latter ingredient that provides the great structure and aromatic fireworks to this fabulous wine. Drink now for the primary fruit or cellar up to 2020.

Stags’ Leap Chardonnay 2012: Distinct aromas of lemon zest, tart white peach, and crisp pear are prominent in this refreshing and focused cool-climate Chardonnay. Backed by wonderful fruit intensity, lasting lemon minerality, and bright acidity, the 2012 vintage walks the idea line between delicacy and weight.

André Bonhomme Vire-Clesse Vieilles Vignes 2011: As a young man, André Bonhomme took a huge risk: Rather than selling his grapes to the local cooperative, he decided to bottle his Chardonnay and sell it on his own. Over the years, his resolve and determination have paid off. Now at the helm, his grandson, Aurélein, is smart enough to trust the 80-year-old vines that are the source of this classic white Burgundy. 500 cases produced. Drink now – 2020.

Clos Julien Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2012: Produced in one of the best places in America for juicy Pinot Noir, the Russian River Valley, Clos Julien has an expansive nose and is redolent of red berries, licorice, and mint, with just a touch of new oak. 900 cases produced.

Château Brehat Côtes de Castillon 2011: Members of the Monteil family have farmed vineyards in St. Emilion and the Côtes de Castillon since the 1600s. Château Brehat is a tiny, sustainable estate plated to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Everything is done by hand. The 2009 is juicy and long on the palate with enough structure to improve in the bottle for 5-7 years.

Enrico Pierazzuoli Carmignano 2012: This northwest corner of Tuscany is one of the very first sites where Cabernet was planted in Italy. Blended with Sangiovese, it produces a full-bodied, slightly rustic wine with layers of dark fruit tinged with aromas and flavors of earth and sweet tobacco. Drink now – 2022.

Château Tournefeuille Lalande-de-Pomerol La Terrasse 2012: Emeric Petit’s elegant Château Tournefeuille is a hidden gem in the great sea that is Bordeaux. The vines are old, coaxing complex aromas and deep flavors of black fruit with a mineral backbone that keeps the wine fresh and a candidate for long aging. The incredible aromas just blast from the glass and continue to evolve.

Carl Roy Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley East Side Cuveé 2012: 2012 in the Napa Valley was a wonderful year for Cabernet. Ry Richards made this wine from two sources: one in cooler Soda Canyon; the other from Howell Mountain. The wine is full of rich red and black fruit buttressed by a fine tannic backbone.

The cost of the winter walk-around wine tasting is $75.00 per person (plus tax & gratuity), $50.00 of which will be put toward the first wine purchase.

Please call (732) 345-9977 to make your reservation.
