The Bernards Inn, Bernardsville, New Jersey, a fine dining restaurant and boutique hotel celebrated for its extensive and unique wine collection, recently garnered two prestigious wine awards from the Wine Spectator and the World of Fine Wine British magazine.
The Inn received the 2014 Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence” for the 16th consecutive year, while the World of Fine Wine distinguished the restaurant as offering one of the best wine lists in the world in its inaugural international ranking. The panel of judges from the World of Fine Wine judged over 4,000 restaurants and only 225 received the top tier rating of three stars.
“We are honored to be recognized again by the Wine Spectator and by the World of Fine Wine for having one of the best wine lists in the world,” noted Harold Imperatore, proprietor of the Bernards Inn.
According to the Wine Spectator, the “Best of Award of Excellence” give special recognition to restaurants offering an extensive wine list, superior presentation, and display vintage depth across several wine regions. The Bernards Inn offers more than 1,500 wine selections in its 14,000-bottle collection, carefully selected by Wine Director and Sommelier Terri Baldwin, to complement the progressive American cuisine crafted by Executive Chef Corey Heyer.
The World of Fine Wine lauded the Inn’s wine program on its website: “Terri A. Baldwin, the highly respected wine director at the Bernards Inn, has taken a creative, open-minded approach to the wine program… [The wine list] is easy to navigate, offering easy ways for both novice and expert to explore.” The judges particularly liked the diverse, fairly priced by-the-glass list, and the selection of wine flights, trios of 2-ounce pours… “This is a strong list stocked with interesting gems wherever you look, from the Finger Lakes sparkling wines of Hermann J. Weimer, to Croft Port 1935.”
Under the direction of Ms. Baldwin, now in her 22nd year at the restaurant, the Bernards Inn offers a selection of over 55 wines by the glass, reflecting what is new, noteworthy, and exciting in the world of wine. The collection features many different styles from regions around the world, with a range of prices starting at on $7.75 a glass. A temperature-controlled, custom-made wine cellar located in the piano bar displays up to 960 bottles for guests and wine enthusiasts to view.
