Beginning Saturday, May 3 and continuing through Saturday, May 31, Pilsener Haus & Biergarten, Hoboken, New Jersey, will celebrate MaiFest, Germany’s annual festival welcoming the arrival of spring.
On Saturday, May 3, 8:00 p.m., Pilsener Haus will host the opening ceremony and barrel-tapping.
Throughout the month, Pilsener Haus’ Chef Thomas Ferlesch will offer a very special MaiFest menu. Vienna-born and trained, Chef Ferlesch’s presence has made the Haus an acclaimed New Jersey dining destination; and he is eminently qualified to bring these special Austro-Hungarian spring dishes to the Biergarten. His menu will consist of…
Gazpacho Andaluz: Chilled Tomato, Cucumber & Bell Pepper Soup, Sherry Vinegar, Croutons
Sulz: Pig’s Head Terrine, Pickled Red Onion, Scallions
Schweinshaxen: Roasted Pork Shank with Pickled Salads: Polish Pickles, Horseradish, Kraut Salad, Country Bread, Bavarian Mustard (Serves Two)
Haus-Made Pastrami Sandwich: On Rye with Pickles and Horseradish
Malakoff Torte: Viennese Rum Cake, Ladyfingers & Whipped Cream
Domestic and imported Maibock beers will be the special seasonal offerings during MaiFest. The maibock style is a helles lager brewed to bock strength, but lighter in color and with more hop presence. It is a refreshing beer, frequently associated with springtime and the month of May.
Music is as much a part of the MaiFest as the food and beer; and Pilsener Haus continues to be Hoboken’s most varied musical venue.
“Authenticity at Pilsener Haus is foremost. Chef Thomas’ special menu, the Maibock beers and the music will transport our guests to springtime in the traditional biergartens we’ve known in Europe,” notes owner Ladi Sebestyan. Guests at Pilsener Haus’ in the bier hall and in the breezy biergarten will find a MaiFest experience that biergarten-goers have enjoyed for hundreds of years.
Bon Appétit!
