Those looking for innovative restaurant ideas can turn to Chef Mark Smith, owner of The Tortilla Press (www.thetortillapress.com) in Collingswood and Tortilla Press Cantina (www.tortillapresscantina.com) in Merchantville, for some ideas on how to make Valentine’s Day a bit more inclusive.
Chef Smith, who has 14 nieces and nephews, never has them very far from his heart or thoughts. “People invest Valentine’s Day with such an onus of romance…but families are the source of love too,” he explained. “So I wanted to develop two menus this year: one for couples – and one for the children, so they could both have their own ‘special’ holiday.”
The Tortilla Press and Tortilla Press Cantina are extending Valentine’s Day to a four day celebration, from Wednesday, February 12 – Saturday, February 15. Appealing to early in the week guests, both restaurants will offer a 10% discount on all Valentine’s selections on Wednesday and Thursday.
Braised short ribs and blackened mahi mahi are on the menu as well as the restaurants’ famous Fajitas. In addition, both vegetarian and gluten free options are offered. “Even with dietary restrictions, everyone wants a great, luscious Valentine’s Day menu,” Chef Smith notes. He is also adding a homemade banana, chocolate and walnut bread pudding with caramel rum sauce to the dessert menu.
But the chef’s favorite addition to his Four Days of Valentines comes in his “Mom’s my Valentine” menu for children under 12. Designed to please families with its kid friendly selections and agreeably low price, “Mom’s my Valentine” menu features some inventive takes on traditional selections (such as the apple, bacon & cheese quesadilla as well as nacho mac & cheese). But Chef Smith’s favorite item is a special children’s dessert – a brioche heart shaped waffle with ice cream, strawberry topping and lots of whipped cream with chocolate chips. Entrée and dessert are $8 for children under 12.
Four Days of Valentines and Mom’s my Valentine menus are available at The Tortilla Press in Collingswood and Tortilla Press Cantina in Merchantville on Wednesday, February 12 through Saturday, February 15th.
