On Tuesday, September 17, 7:00 p.m., the Orange Squirrel in Bloomfield, New Jersey, will host their first wine dinner, which will introduce Clos Monicord, a young vineyard from Bordeaux, to the United States market.

Clos Monicord is a 39.5 acre vineyard that is owned and run by the Bakx family, an oenological enterprise in which every member of the family is intimately involved in the winemaking process. Daughter Audrey is an artist who designs the labels and branding that reflect the lifestyle of the vineyard. And the label design changes annually, with each vintage release, making the bottles collectible pieces. The family believes that wine should be a multi-sensory experience, as pleasing to the eye as to the palate.

The Bakx family offers two wines: Clos Monicord  and Les Monicord… which are, most assuredly, not your traditional Bordeaux. Clos Monicord is a deep, complex and sumptuous premium wine carefully assembled from the best grapes grown on the vineyard’s limestone plateau and matured in French oak barrels. Les Monicord, on the other hand, is a delightfully fruity and accessible wine with depth that is derived from the clay slopes.

Proprietors Audrey and Joep Bakx will be in attendance to personally present the wines; and the Chef’s menu will incorporate the wines in each dish, in addition to the specific pairings.

Amuse Bouche: Crispy Mussel Croquette, Les Aioli

En Salade: Endive Spears, Brie, Rosemary Croutons, Dry Sausage, Les Vinaigrette

Course II: Close Risotto, Parsley Garlic Escargot

Course III: Close Beef Bourguignon En Croute, Fingerling, Baby Carrot, Vol-Au-Vent

Course IV: Les Poached Garden Figs, Hazelnut Brittle, Buttermilk Gelato

The four course dinner with the Clos Monicord wine pairings is $80.00 per person (plus tax & gratuity). At this event, the wines will be offered for a special discounted price: Clos Monicord, $40.00; Les Monicord, $30.00. After the event, they will be available on the restaurant’s menu at the regular price.

Reservations are required for this special wine dinner. For more information, or to make reservations, please call (973) 337-6421.

Bon Appétit!
