On Tuesday, April 23rd, Za Restaurant, 147 West Delaware Avenue, Pennington, New Jersey, will launch its “Green Table” menu of lighter, less pricey dishes.

Since opening in the summer of 2006, Chef Mark Valenza has attracted an audience of upscale diners with his gourmet comfort food entrées priced in the $29.00 – $49.00 range. On the new “Green Table” menu, however, entrée salads will start at $9.95 and main course entrées will be priced from $16.95 – $24.95. Only one of the current “premium entrées” will remain on the menu, the Chef’s popular Lobster Risotto, which will be market priced.

But drastic price reductions are not the only changes Za Restaurant is planning for its “Green Table” launch. The new menu will feature more vegetarian choices, more gluten-free items and, for lighter, healthier dining, mini desserts all under 300 calories. The restaurant will continue to offer its famous gluten-free, fresh-baked chocolate soufflé served with house-made whipped cream.

“As always, the entire menu will be made from scratch, in house, from fresh, local ingredients,” notes Chef Valenza, “and we’re going to stick with our cross-cultural comfort food theme that everyone loves.”

The new “Green Table” menu is not only more affordable, it is also designed to accommodate light to full meal dining and to cater to a variety of dietary needs. Guests may now order a fresh, inexpensive light meal should they so choose, or a complete meal with all the trimmings. The “Green Table” menu will offer eight vegetarian and thirteen gluten-free selections.

Za Restaurant will also eliminate tablecloths and fancy napkins, opting instead for funky bright table covers and a more bohemian décor. Formal tables in the main dining room will give way to more flexible banquet and booth seating.

“People, especially families, have been telling us they want a much more casual dining experience. The trappings of fine dining just don’t fit anymore with the way most people live today. It has become a luxury they have dispensed with,” notes Chef Mark. “We want to make our customers as comfortable as possible and create a place that’s appealing in an everyday way with great fresh food.”

As always, Za is a BYOB restaurant.
