This Sunday, March 3rd, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Crystal Springs Resort in Hardyston, New Jersey, will hold a wine seminar and tasting, followed by a tour of the Resort’s acclaimed 135,000 bottle Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning wine cellar.
Samantha Shaw, one of Crystal Springs Resort sommeliers, will guide guests through a tasting of six (6) wines made with zinfandel and primitivo, two grapes grown in wine regions separated by thousands of miles – California & Puglia in southern Italy, respectively – but which come from the same “mother” grape and are genetic siblings.
Ms. Shaw will begin by pouring a white zinfandel to discuss white verses red. Among the wines tasted will be special bottles, such as an older vintage of the famed Turley Zinfandel and a blend from Ridge, another California producer known for producing excellent zinfandels. Ms. Shaw will also invite the guests to blend the wine with a little surprise wine to see how another varietal can alter a wine for better or worse, which will add an unusual and intriguing aspect to the seminar.
This two hour class and tasting will also include a selection of cheeses, nuts, crackers, and dark & milk chocolate to note how flavors change when paired with the wines. After the tastings, Ms. Shaw will lead a tour of the Resort’s outstanding wine cellar, one of the largest & deepest in the country, housing vintages that go back over two hundred years to 1795.
The cost of this seminar and tasting is $40.00 per person, inclusive of wines and food. To register for the tasting and cellar tour, please call (973) 827-5996, ext. 3 (please note that guests must be 21 years of age and over). The tasting will take place at the Bordeaux Room in Latour’s Wine Cellar at the Grand Cascades, 3 Wild Turkey Way, Hardyston, NJ.
