Chef Mike Ventura, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of American and himself a diabetic, has developed a special cooking class/support group for diabetics.

According to the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, diabetes currently impacts 25.8 million people; more than 8.3% of the U.S. population, including 7 million undiagnosed people of all ages; and millions more are diagnosed worldwide.

Chef Mike Ventura felt an urgent need to develop a class that not only targets diabetics and their families, but would also be of service to the general public. Each class will be designed to help diabetics, their families, and the general public to eat more healthfully. Students will learn about making healthy choices and preparing meals that fit into the diabetic lifestyle.

Type2Chef offers diabetics and their families instruction and information on how to eat and live well while managing their blood sugar levels.

The first “Type2Chef” class will be held at the Ridgewood Culinary Studio, Ridgewood, New Jersey, on Monday, February 18th.
