This fall, the historic Old Swedes Inn will be reincarnated as Tavro 13, with acclaimed Chef Terence Feury as the power-behind-the-stove/partner at the nearly 250-year-old Colonial structure at 1301 Kings Highway in Swedesboro, New Jersey.
Transformed by owners and Gloucester residents Constantine “Gus” Tzitzifas and his wife, Effie, Tavro 13 is thoroughly modern in its approach to hospitality while maintaining the old world charm and class that made it a destination for locals & visitors for almost a quarter century.
Tavro 13, which means “bull” in Greek, in combination with the Tzitzifases’ favorite number, resides in a building that can be found on the County Register of Historic Landmarks. Built in 1771, the space has seen time as a dry goods store, hotel, and a tavern in the centuries since its construction. Today, the first floor is home to a speakeasy-style 33-foot-long bar with an extensive, house-developed craft cocktail program and eight beers on tap.
Just like the original Old Swedes Inn, the lounge features a stage and will serve as a venue for live music. The 56-seat dining room is intimately sophisticated, boasting a grand fireplace, as well as chandeliers designed by Warren Muller and R.J. Thornburg of Philadelphia’s Bahdeebahdu Studios, and access to an outdoor dining patio. The interior original staircase leads to the second floor private dining room and pre-event space that is ideal for receptions/dinners for 100 guests.
Tavro 13 will offer diners many different ways to experience the food of renowned chef Terence Feury. A New Jersey native, Chef Feury comes to Tavro 13 after establishing himself as one of the most lauded chefs in the Philadelphia area. A veteran of Le Bernardin in New York, Philadelphia’s Striped Bass, Ritz Carlton, and, most recently, Fork, Chef Feury has gained local, regional, and national accolades throughout his career. His cuisine at Tavro 13 will be seasonally driven American with a strong connection to local farmers and local ingredients.
Tavro 13 is scheduled to open in mid-September.
