tinto-philly-interiorTravel & Leisure magazine has selected Chef José Garces’ Basque wine bar & restaurant, Tinto, as one of “American’s Best Wine Bars’ in its annual “World’s Best Awards” issue (March 2012).

Travel & Leisure noted: “Wines from northern Spain and southern France take center stage at Chef José Garces’ tribute to Basque Country. While perched atop the orange lumber bar, you’ll gaze at a lattic-like display of wood that houses a staggering number of bottles – nearly 1,000. For a cozier ambience, head downstairs to the lounge, scattered with brown & mustard sofas. Garces, who is known for his unconventional spin on Spanish cuisine, serves up avant-garde pintxos (the Basque word for “finger food”) like Kobe beef canapés and figs blanketed in Serrano ham.”

To celebrate the award, Tinto will add more Spanish wine offerings during its popular weekly happy hour, “Tinto Tuesdays,” which feature tasty Basque snacks for $2.00 and drinks priced at $5.00 and under, are served from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. And as of March 13th, “Tinto Tuesday” revelers can enjoy three reds, two whites, and one sparking cava by the glass, all for only $4.00. “Tinto Tuesdays” take place in the bar and adjacent dining room.

Tinto, which is colloquial Basque for “red wine,” features an intimate atmosphere reminiscent of a rustic wine cellar and an incredible wine list of more than 50 Spanish varieties that complement the restaurant’s diverse menu.

Tinto, 114 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is open for dinner seven days a week. Sunday brunch is served from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. For more information, or to make a reservation, please call (215) 665-9150 or visit www.tintorestaurant.com.

Bon Appétit!
