When I first reviewed Alba in March 2006, the restaurant was BYOB. This past December (2011), however, chef/proprietor Sean Weinberg and his wife, Kelly, secured a liquor license and expanded their establishment into the corner property located at King Street & Warren Avenue in the center of Malvern, Pennsylvania.
The new space features a warm & intimate bar area with extended banquet seating and a new casual small plate menu. The bar is specifically designed as an after work meeting place for preprandial libations or a relaxed lunch served on Thursdays and Fridays.
Chef Weinberg’s vision for the renovation project was to create a bar area in the tradition of the northern Italian Aperitivo, serving a variety of complimentary light bites each weeknight from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in a relaxed, warm atmosphere. The full service bar specializes in classic cocktails as well as specialty wines and craft beer.
Celebrating their sixth anniversary, the new full service bar area complements Restaurant Alba’s contemporary cuisine focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Both bar and dining room menus feature dishes simply prepared and cooked over a state-of-the-art wood-burning grill. This allows the true flavors of the food to offer their unique contributions while being enhanced by a live hickory & mesquite wood fire, a concept found throughout the countryside of Europe.
Mr. Weinberg, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, grew up in his parents’ restaurant, Philadelphia’s Rose Tattoo Café, where he served as executive chef for five years prior to opening Restaurant Alba.
Restaurant Alba is located at 7 West King Street, Malvern, Pennsylvania. Reservations may be made by calling (610) 644-4009 or on line at www.restaurantalba.com.
