london-grill2Chef Michael McNally of Philadelphia’s popular London Grill, 2301 Fairmount Avenue, is serving up a “Chef’s Vegetable Board” that features expertly prepared seasonal vegetables. Much like a charcuterie board or cheese plate, the vegetable plate changes daily to reflect the freshest selections. The vegetable board is available for $11.00 as an appetizer and $20.00 as an entrée.

“The vegetable board is meant for a table to share, or as a hearty and satisfying entrée for vegetarian guests, offering much more variety and flavor than the afterthought dishes that many chefs prepare for those who don’t eat meat or seafood,” notes Chef McNally. “I’ll be scouting local farmers’ markets for peak seasonal ingredients, and as new vegetables come into season, I’ll include them to keep it of-the-moment.”

Recent offerings on the vegetable board have included: artichoke & orange compote; grilled grape leaves with couscous and fava beans; chick pea tabouli with grilled romaine; spring peas with pistachios and fresh ricotta; chilled watercress & leek soup with fried leeks; beet risotto with cured lemon & sorrel; vidalia onion-lentil croquettes; new potato-morel mushroom fricassee on garlic toast; grilled asparagus with blood orange, tapenade, and poached egg; and roasted beet, new potato, and egg salad with dandelion.

In addition to the chef’s garden-fresh vegetable offerings, co-owner Terry Berch supplements the restaurant’s extensive beverage menu with a variety of seasonal cocktails that are perfect for pairing with the vegetable board. The cocktails incorporate top-notch and unusual liquors with garden-fresh herbs and house-made fruit & spice syrups and purées.

Striking a perfect balance between cozy neighborhood pub and fine dining restaurant, London Grill has remained one of Philadelphia’s most popular destinations since 1991. Located in the historic Fairmount neighborhood, a short walk from the Franklin Institute and its neighboring museums, the restaurant and bar has gained a reputation for its creative menus, which draw on American comfort favorites and cuisines from around the world.
