In an article posted on July 23rd, food writer Michael Klein of the Philadelphia Inquirer announced that Georges Perrier’s world-renowned French restaurant, Le Bec-Fin,would close its doors in the spring of 2011.
Mr. Perrier founded the restaurant in 1970 in the diminutive space at 1312 Spruce Street; he subsequently moved the establishment to larger quarters, its current home at 1523 Walnut Street, in 1983. Le Bec-Fin has garnered countless culinary accolades over its 40-year lifespan; but Mr. Perrier, a native of Lyon, France, feels that both he and Philadelphia diners are ready for a change.
In the last several years, prices at Le Bec-Fin have been lowered dramatically, as has the dress code. It is now possible to dine at the restaurant in jeans.
During the course of the years, while we lived in the Garden State, my wife and I visited the restaurant on several occasions and always enjoyed the spectacular cuisine and impeccable service. We do plan one last trip to Le Bec-Fin before it closes its doors forever… You may wish to do the same…
Bon Appétit!
