pub-kitchenBeginning Wednesday, April 7th, 7:00 p.m., the Pub & Kitchen, 1946 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will host an ongoing monthly series of “Retro Cookbook Dinners,” featuring Chef Jonathan Adams’ creative interpretations of recipes from classic cookbooks of yesteryear.

The first cookbook dinner will highlight dishes from Craig Claiborne’s acclaimed New York Times Cookbook, published in 1961. The dinner will include four courses and a complimentary champagne cocktail as an aperitif.

The menu: Potage Cressonnière (p. 68), potato and watercress soup garnished with black pepper and watercress leaves; Trout Meunière (p. 261), pan-roasted Pocono trout with green beans, almonds, and lemon brown butter; Steak Diane (p. 91), cast iron New York strip steak with fresh spinach, potatoes “duchess,” and sherry sauce; and Crepes Marcelle (p. 610), crepes filled with cognac pastry cream and fresh roasted pears.

Future dinners will be held on Wednesday, May 5th, and Wednesday, June 9th, and will likely include Jeremiah Tower’s New American Classics (1986), Wolfgang Reighert’s Culinary Excursions Through Germany (1986), and Marco Pierre White’s White Heat (1990).

The cost of these dinners will be $40.00 per person (plus tax & gratuity). For more information about the Pub & Kitchen, including their “Retro Cookbook Dinners,” or to make a reservation, please call (215) 545-0350 or visit www.thepubandkitchen.com.
