On Sunday, Dec. 13, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., New Jersey artists Edward Baumlin (Frenchtown), Dominica Busicchia (East Brunswick) and Brittany Tarantino (Monroe) will host a free opening reception for the Winter 2009 gallery show at Fiddleheads Restaurant in downtown Jamesburg. The show includes complex watercolors, acrylics, and color-pencil artworks, framed and ready for sale. Also featured will be the framed work of nature photographer Jennifer Wiessner of Maine. Fiddleheads has been sponsoring quarterly exhibits of local artists since 2004, and has been working with the Suburban Artists Guild, based in East Brunswick, since 2007. Shows are curated by Selena Palmer and Paula Feifer, members of the guild.
Fiddleheads invites the public to “Christmas at Fiddleheads,” a holiday reception to view the show, and visit with the artists and the restaurant owners and staff. Complimentary light refreshments, courtesy of the artists and Fiddleheads, will be served during the reception time. The restaurant will not be open for à la carte seating during the reception, but will open for dinner at 4 p.m., the conclusion of the event. Reservations are not required.
Also during the hours of the reception, Fiddleheads will award a $10 gift certificate to the restaurant with any art purchase. Cash and checks are the only accepted form of payment for artwork.
Artist Edward Baumlin, a resident of Frenchtown, works primarily in watercolors and acrylics. A graduate of the Art Career School in New York, he owned and operated a graphic-design studio for more than two decades, and became interested in watercolors. Inspired by color, he uses glazes of light and dark hues and utilizes shapes to evoke interest. He is a member of numerous art societies including serving as president of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society from 1999 to 2002, and has exhibited in and won awards in exhibitions throughout the tri-state area. This is his first exhibition at Fiddleheads.
Artist Dominica Busicchia, a resident of East Brunswick, uses a variety of media to create her art, including pen and ink, watercolor and color pencil. She is particularly inspired by the outdoor vistas of Vermont. She has been secretary of the Suburban Artists Guild since 2005. This is her first exhibition at Fiddleheads.
Artist Brittany Tarantino, a resident of Monroe, works primarily in color pencil and pastels. She is a master’s candidate at Georgian Court University for art education, and this is her first exhibition at Fiddleheads.
Photographer Jennifer Wiessner is the house artist at Fiddleheads, having displayed and sold her work here continuously since 2004. Formerly of East Brunswick and now raising two sons in coastal Maine with her husband, Greg, Jennifer focuses her lens on serene nature and its moments of breathtaking beauty, particularly with plant life, animals, and rays of light in the north country, from Maine into eastern Canada. She has won several prizes in Maine for her photography and has sold more than two dozen framed photographs at Fiddleheads.
The exhibit will be on display through April 2010.
