milfordoysterhouse2The second annual Milford Oyster House Oktoberbest will be held this coming Sunday, October 18, from 12:00 noon7:00 p.m. Chef Ed Coss has planned a full menu of German style food, including potato pancakes with fresh applesauce, sauerbraten with red cabbage, and a whole roast pig from local Milford Farms. “We are pleased to be able to support a local farmer and a neighbor,” noted Chef Coss. And wurst will once again be on the menu, courtesy of a German butcher in Newark who makes his sausage fresh every day.

New this year will be the dessert table featuring chocolate cherry cupcakes, pumpkin cheesecake with gingersnap crust, apple tarts with whipped cream, and cookies. Cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate, and coffee will also be served.

The entertainment has been expanded this year to include local singer Ted Lyons, who will appear from noon until 2:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m., the popular Jagermeisters will take the stage with their rousing oompa music. The Jagermeisters are a seven piece brass band that played to great acclaim at last year’s festivities. They will play until 6:00 p.m.

Eight German and German style brews will be offered on tap. The very popular pumpkin pie martini will also be available, as will the orange gingerbread martini and 14 Hands Riesling from Washington State, which made its New Jersey debut at last year’s Oktoberfest.

At 2:00 p.m. there will be judging for the most elaborate beer stein and best German-themed costume. The prize for both categories will be a $50.00 Milford Oyster House gift certificate.

Food will range in price from $1.00 per oyster to $12.00 for a plate of roast pig. Beer will be priced at $6.00 per pint. Payment can be in cash or with Oktoberfest tickets, which can be purchased in advance by calling (908) 995-9411, or at the door with cash or credit card. Free tee shirts will be given out to the first 100 guests.

Parking will be in the Water Street Park at the corner of York and Water Streets. The fee for parking is $5.00 per car and benefits the Milford Volunteer Fire Department.
