pleasantdale1The Knowles family, owners of Pleasantdale Château in West Orange, NJ, recently announced a special “Wines of New Zealand Dinner” to be held on Wednesday, October 14th, featuring a seasonally appropriate menu inspired by a portfolio of Kim Crawford Wines. Matt Large, winemaker at Kim Crawford, will be flying in from New Zealand to discuss the wines, the food pairings, and the winemaking process.

This exclusive opportunity will be limited to 70 guests, all of whom will be treated to thoughtful pairings of these southern hemisphere wines to dishes that will feature New Zealand mussels, barramundi, lamb, and other items, as well as herbs and vegetables from the on-site Farm at Pleasantdale Château, all conceived by Robert Albers, executive chef.

“Several of the wines we’ve chosen for this event are small-parcel or single-vineyard wines that follow sustainable winemaking practices,” noted Kurt Knowles, co-owner of Knowles Restaurants. The wines, including the 2006 small parcels Rise-and-Shine Creek Pinot Noir from the Central Otago region of New Zealand, as well as Mr. Large’s introduction of each wine prior to the serving of each of the five courses, will have been made possible by Robert Jewell of Constellation Wines U.S.

A welcoming cocktail reception in the Château’s fountain room will begin at 6:00 p.m.; dinner will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the music room.

In keeping with the heavily sheep-populated country that is the focus of the evening’s dinner, a selection of Valley Shepherd Creamery’s sheep’s milk cheeses from their farm in Long Valley, NJ, will be served during the cocktail reception along with other hors d’oeurvres.

The cost of the “Wines of New Zealand Dinner” is $125.00 per person, inclusive of tax & gratuity. To make reservations for this unique event, please call General Manager Lars Johnson at (973) 731-5600.
