From ancient times to the modern era, the most important holiday on the Greek calendar remains Easter. And at Nisi, 90 Grand Avenue in Englewood, the restaurant will honor this scared day in style. The greatest of Easter traditions, an outdoor, spit-roasted whole baby spring lamb, will be prepared directly outside the main entrance.
Lamb is the centerpiece of all Easter celebrations at Nisi, both the midnight meal served Easter Eve, Saturday, April 18th, and the Easter Sunday feast, 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m., Sunday April 19th.
A four-course traditional menu, prepared for modern tastes by Chef John Piliouras, is $60.00 per person (plus tax and gratuity). The four-course menu is the only dining option on Easter Eve; but, on Easter Sunday, guests may enjoy it as a complete menu, or order from it à la carte. Wine pairings will be available upon request, as will the restaurant’s regular menu.
The four-course Easter menu begins with Magiritsa, a soup made from all parts of the lamb. A selection of mezedes will also be served along with the soup: a leek/cheese pie, sautéed sweetbreads, and taramosalata, a caviar mousse. The menu continues with salad, and then tender slices of the spit-roasted baby lamb and roasted potatoes flavored with lemon, olive oil, and oregano. The traditional dessert is galaktoboureko, a light, crispy dough wrapped around a custard filling.
