Majolica, which is named for the pottery produced by the Phoenixville firm of Griffen, Smith & Hill in the 1880s, is the labor of love of Andrew Deery and his wife, Sarah Johnston, both Phoenixville natives. Ms. Johnston imbues the front of the house with an understated elegance, while Mr. Deery, a veteran of Savona and the Kimberton Inn, sends forth an equally elegant array of French-accented seasonal American offerings.
I have always been a fan of Majolica… but recently I’d been hearing disquieting rumors that the restaurant was about to close. Given these tough economic times, and the fact that Majolica is a BYOB and operates under an exceedingly tight profit margin, I was afraid that the end was near.
Fortunately, Majolica will reopen this evening (March 18th), reorganized, rejuvenated, and ready to rock with a new attitude and menu. The new Majolica will still showcase fresh local ingredients, seasonal modifications, and Andrew Derry’s signature style… but significant changes have been incorporated to make the bistro more accessible to more people. The addition of affordable à la carte appetizers starting at $3.00 and entrées starting at $16.00 opens Majolica’s menu up to families and people who dine out frequently. Additionally, the restaurant menu will now include prix-fixe selections with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for just $25.00. Majolica is still a BYOB establishment.
This popular restaurant is also changing its hours of operation, offering dinner service of the compelling new menu Wednesday through Sunday from 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
