Early in January (2009), long-time New York City chef, John Piliouras, and general manager Michael Liristis debuted Nisi Estiatorio at 90 Grand Avenue in Englewood. The striking décor, courtesy of Steven Lazarus of Axis Architectural Studio, also in Engelwood, embodies both the grandeur and the romantic serenity of the Greek Isles (Nisi means “island” in Greek). The interior boasts a spacious bar area with a warm, inviting blend of natural materials, an indoor waterfall, and a rounded ceiling of sapphire blue streaked with ribbons of white. There is also a striking glass-enclosed wine cellar, home to sommelier Sterling Roig’s 130-label selection (approximately 40% of which are of Greek origin).
Culinarily, however, the center of attractive is the gathering of whole fresh fish perched atop a shimmering ice display, permitting patrons to choose their own piscatorial pleasure – which Chef John Piliouras, formerly of the highly acclaimed Molyvos in the Big Apple, prepares to perfection. The menu also includes a select number of chicken, lamb, and beef entrées.
At the present time, the restaurant serves dinner only, 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday – Saturday; Sundays from 12:00 noon. For more info, or to make reservations, please call (201) 567-4700

Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the ambiance. The dining room, set back from entrance is a suprise. Upon entering, the place feels cozy and inviting and step inside and you see the main dining area. A bit noisy but to be expected at such a hopping hot spot. Next time we will ask for a table in the front room.
Not your usual salty greek food, it gives room to savor the unique combinations of traditional and unexpected spices and textures as in the scallops in shredded phyllo and soft loukaniko. Try the fried cheese! Assisitance with the wine list by in house sommelier we found helpful and a lovely touch. Would have liked more greek music maybe. Oh…leave room for the entree! Have the fish whole or cleaned. Prawns, striped bass and branzino were all extremely fresh and prepared very simply. Overall excellent experience. We’ll be back!
